Prior to taking on the role of President, I served as VP Hockey Administration and as U18 Category Director. I have been a head coach or assistant coach on multiple hockey teams. I have been head coach of SN601 the last 2 seasons.
I believe strongly in community and public service. I have coached coed, male and female teams in baseball and volleyball as well as hockey and served as a member of the RCMP for the past 22 years.
Getting down at ice level and watching the smiles and wonder on the faces of U7 players will remind you quickly why volunteering in hockey matters.
Hard work beats talent every time when talent doesn’t work hard.
My son is playing in his 9th year of hockey, all of them in SPMHA. I have been on the board for 6 of those years, 2 as a U13 director, 2 as Treasurer and 2 as VP Hockey Admin. I have also been involved at a team level as either the manager or treasurer every year as well.
I choose to be involved in the board and team positions as I cannot skate, I am one of the rare Canadians who did not play hockey as a kid, so this is my way to help out since I can't coach. I understand that none of this happens without volunteers and I want to contribute to making the season the best it can be for everyone.
I am in my 21rst year of being involved in Minor Hockey. I have coached in all 21 of these years. This season is different ,first time in 20 years I wont be coaching players directly, I will be coaching the coaches to develop the players properly. I started coaching my buddies kid then my real journey began as I coached my 3 boys on all their teams. I also have kept busy through off season coaching development/ conditioning camps and checking clinics. During the 20years I also spent 9 years on a Minor hockey board where I was VP of operations and league rep for most that time.
Giving back has always been important to my wife and I. Dont know how it started or why? Just seems to be the right thing and we are now seeing it come full circle as our boys are now coaching multiple sports and helping with community functions outside of sports. Coaching is a passion of mine, I've had the opportunity to coach some great kids and meet some great people in Baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey. I don't plan on quitting anytime soon.
Coach for life not a season!
I have been involved in hockey all my life. I played hockey and officiated hockey when I was young. When I moved to Stony Plain 15 years ago, I re-introduced myself to minor hockey as an official with the SPMHA. After having kids, I transitioned to coaching. I have been lucky enough to coach on several teams in the SPMHA over the last 7 years.
I have dedicated the majority of my life to working with kids. Both professionally and in my personal life as a coach and mentor. I enjoy spending my time outside. Some hobbies that I enjoy are hunting, fishing, water sports, and golfing.
This is my sixth year on the board, I was Coach Director for the last 4 years. I have head coached both my children since Atom (U11). I now coach a U18 team I don't have a child on, and it's super rewarding to give back. Before I had kids I volunteered with Hockey Alberta. Hockey is my passion, it's a great way to make winter fly by!
My dad was always involved when I was a kid and even at 80 he still works with different groups. That left a lasting impression on me. I volunteer to help make things better in my community, giving back truly is rewarding and the good outweighs the bad (for the most part). I figure if you want to make a difference than step-up, sitting on the sidelines complaining is not helpful. Showing my kids that you can make a difference by helping will hopefully encourage them to be leaders as well.
I wanted to move to the Referee-In-Chief position as it needed some structure. We have done a lot of work so far, developing them through supervisions, mentorships and on-ice shadows. We definitely need more senior officials, that is my biggest challenge. However we have a great group of referee's at all levels who do an excellent job, and I'm super proud of everyone.
I’ve been involved in minor hockey for 7 years as a Coach and the last 3 as a Board Member. I love seeing the growth kids get through hockey that goes beyond the rink. Teamwork, work ethic, helping others, working to achieve a goal, achieving a goal together. All life skills these kids will carry forward into all aspects of life.
I want to create an environment where every kid who wants to play hockey. has a path to do so. Hockey ain't cheap and it's continually getting more expensive. Finding a path for every kid to play is why I volunteer.
Fun Fact... I'm excited that Arena Fries are back at Glenn Hall!
This will be my second year being a director with SPMHA. (Previously U11 Director for the 2023/2024 season).
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please email, text or call me.
