Coaches
COACH QUALIFICATIONS
NEW! This year Hockey Alberta has moved away from local MHA's hosting coaching clinics.
They have moved to a HUB model where a few select towns will host clinics. Unfortunately, Stony Plain was not selected, though they will consider us for next season. What this means for us is that all of our association coaches will have to travel to the locations hosting, in order to complete the required clinics. Spordle, where coaches go to sign up for clinics; has a list of all locations available.
Please log in to your Hockey Canada account and review your credentials and ensure that you have the necessary coaching requirements.
Coach Applications
Coach Applications for the 2022-2023 Season are now being accepted and previous experience is not required. Applications are open to all interested individuals.
All coaches who are applying to be Head Coach with SPMHA must provide a sample practice plan at coach interviews.
If you have further questions, need support in developing a practice plan, or require assistance, please contact Matt Curry at Coachdev@spmha.net

Managers
Manager responsibilities
The Manager is primarily responsible for all off-ice activities and is the direct report for the various team volunteer roles. They will work closely with the head coach to ensure the season runs smoothly. Team Managers play an important role in the dynamics and culture of the team. They help to set the tone and ideally should be approachable, engaging, and supportive of everyone on the team.
Permits
Permits require 3-5 business days to obtain. Permit requests on short notice cannot be guaranteed and may be denied.
You are not permitted to play without the appropriate permits, so please be mindful of the time required for approval. If you don't have your permit by noon the day before the game please email registration@spmha.net

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) offers participants of all ages an opportunity to be involved in the game beyond playing. By following the levels of development, and with hard work and dedication, officials can find fulfillment in their advancement while making the game safe, fair and fun.
The Hockey Canada Officiating Pathway is the foundation for all officials across the country. Hockey Canada has categorized hockey into five basic streams, each with different priorities. They include:
- Introduction
- Recreational
- Competitive
- High Performance
- Adult Recreational
The pathway has been developed to address the following components of the program at both the Member and national levels:
- Inclusivity and gender neutrality.
- Defining a process to allow individuals to join the system at the appropriate level.
- Providing equal opportunities for officials of the same skill level.
- Developing a national standard that is adhered to by the Members.
- Building flexibility into a linear system.
NEED A REFEREE?
Please contact Ryan Steinke. Remember to allow at least 96 hours notice to request referees and 48 hours to cancel.
You will not be notified if you have referees booked for your game, but will be notified if we can not find you referees.
